Recent experiments on two-dimensional artificial crystals have revealed a set of magnetic oscillations with unexpected frequencies. We present a theory of these oscillations and show that they are of a kind not previously observed in artificial crystals or in real metals. In particular, we show that they arise from open electron trajectories.
