Alexander Nguyen

Student (PhD), Monash

Alexandar received his bachelor’s degree in physics and astrophysics at the University of California, Berkeley. He then moved to Melbourne to study engineering at Monash University under the supervision of Dr. Julie Karel. His research was focused on performing magnetoelectronic transport measurements on amorphous topological insulators. One of the goals of his research was to experimentally realize topologically protected states in an amorphous material. Another major career goal of was to improve diversity in academia, especially in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). He was one of the co-queer officers at Monash Graduate Association; he had helped organise events focussing on supporting the queer graduate students at Monash University. He also became the first member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the department of Material Science and Engineering.
