FLEET PI Dr Ian Spielman worked within the Centre’s Research theme 3 on topological matter created using the artificial gauge field techniques pioneered by his group at NIST and the JQI. Spielman creates localised topological edge states at interfaces in 1D topological lattices—building on his team’s recent realisation of quantum charge pumping in a 1D topological lattice—and extend these techniques to create conducting edge states of 2D topological systems.
