A series of talks spotlights leading Australian physics research for the physics community.
Co-organised by FLEET and the Australian Institute of Physics, the series throws the spotlight on a different Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence each month, with AIP members and others in the physics community dialing in over zoom to hear about leading Australian research.
To date, over 300 audience members have listened to talks from:
- Dr Kirrily Rule (FLEET/ANSTO) on the use of neutron scattering in developing novel materials for low-energy electronics [catchup on youtube]
- Prof Andrew White (EQUS) summarised quantum technology in Australia and internationally [catchup on Vimeo]
- Dr Paul Lasky (OzGrav) explained how a proposed Australian gravitational waves observatory would unlock the mechanics of neutron stars [catchup]
- A/Prof Nick Menicucci (CQC2T) on quantum computing [catchup]
- Dr Nas Meftahi (Exciton Science) on machine-learning approaches to studying photovoltaic material [catchup]
- A/Prof Dietmar Dommenget (Climate Extremes) on incorporating physics into sophisticated climate modelling [catchup]
- Prof Lisa Kewley (ASTRO3D) ASTRO3D and Galaxy evolution [catchup]
- Maxim Goryachev (Dark Matter) Low-energy searches for new physics [catchup]
Upcoming talks include:
- 23 April 2021 Centre for Transformative Meta-Optical Systems (TMOS) – new Centre ‘A new lens – using nanomaterials to transform optical systems‘
